Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Julia Fona Roberts is the fourth generation of Roberts living in Atlanta. Her father was a young man when he became interested in theater. As a student in Emory University he appeared in numerous productions at and off the campus. He joined the Air Force in 1953 and, while stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, was cast in a military production that included Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the Air force. They married in 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter was a student at Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana following his departure from the Air Force in the year 1957. The family relocated in 1960 into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter along with Betty Lou started production in 1964 for the children's local Saturday morning show on television called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they self-funded. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in the same year, which lasted 6 years. The couple had another two children: Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also known by the name Lisa) as well as Julia Billingsley (1967) (also also known by the same name Julie).
